They suggest that you use it remotely linked, I think it is so they can do bug fixes etc.

I gave up earlier as static.simile.mit.edu was taking too long. I'd suggest maybe you copy their files to your site daily/weekly using a cron job. That way you get bug fixes and you're not depending on trans-atlantic reliability.
